What is Somatic Therapy?

I made more progress in a single Somatic Therapy session than 8 years of traditional talking therapy

What is Somatic Therapy?

Somatic therapy is a body-centered approach to psychotherapy that focuses on the connection between the mind and body. It aims to help individuals become more aware of what they may be holding and have the opportunity to release what might be preventing them from a living a happier, freer, healthier life.

Body-Centered

Unlike traditional talk therapy, somatic therapy emphasizes the physical body as a primary tool for healing and processing emotions. The body can hold onto all of our experiences and by accessing them we are able to have “ah-ha” moments of realisation when we make connections and are able to release what has been holding us back.

Mind-body Connection with Illness

Somatic therapy recognizes that the mind and body are interconnected and that emotions can manifest physically as symptoms. Using effective techniques to allow symptoms to ‘speak,’ once they have been ‘heard’, the ailments need no longer persist. Clients often report symptoms lessen or cease entirely.

Trauma Processing - Our body holds our life story

Somatic Therapy is often used to help individuals release held trauma, allowing them to move beyond the impact of past experiences.

Techniques

Techniques may include mindful visualisation, simple dialogue, gentle touch and a crystal bowl sound bath to end the session.

Benefits of Somatic Therapy

- Reduces and can eliminate anxiety and depression.

- Reduces and can eliminate physical symptoms.

- Aids in processing the loss of a loved one.

- Helps cope with the effects of separation and divorce.

- Supports recovery from addiction.

- Provides clarity in life, work, and relationships.

How many sessions do I need?

A minimum of three sessions is recommended. While a single session may facilitate release, there could be additional layers to address.
